Where do these come from? Since most statistical packages calculate these estimates automatically, it is not unreasonable to think that many researchers using applied econometrics are unfamiliar with the exact details of their computation. When the error terms are assumed homoskedastic IID, the calculation of standard errors comes from taking the square root of the diagonal elements of the variance-covariance matrix which is formulated:.
In practice, and in R, this is easy to do. Code is below. As you can see, these standard errors correspond exactly to those reported using the lm function.

Consequentially, it is inappropriate to use the average squared residuals. Once again, in R this is trivially implemented. Adjusting standard errors for clustering can be important. Package sandwich offers various types of sandwich estimators that can also be applied to objects of class "glm", in particular sandwich which computes the standard Eicker-Huber-White estimate.
These robust covariance matrices can be plugged into various inference functions such as linear. See the man pages and package vignettes for examples. But I must be doing something wrong. However, if you beleive your errors do not satisfy the standard assumptions of the model, then you should not be running that model as this might lead to biased parameter estimates. For instance, in the linear regression model you have consistent parameter estimates independently of whethere the errors are heteroskedastic or not. However, in the case of non-linear models it is usually the case that heteroskedasticity will lead to biased parameter estimates unless you fix it explicitly somehow.
Stata is famous for providing Huber-White std. But this is nonsensical in the non-linear models since in these cases you would be consistently estimating the standard errors of inconsistent parameters. This point and potential solutions to this problem is nicely discussed in Wooldrige's Econometric Analysis of Cross Section and Panel Data. The "robust standard errors" that "sandwich" and "robcov" give are almost completely unrelated to glmrob. My guess is that Celso wants glmrobbut I don't know for sure.
